Banga (Columbia / Sony, 2012), described by critics as their best album since Horses, has been produced by Patti Smith's own with the help of musicians and regular saucony collaboration with musicians like Tom Verlaine of Television, Jack Petruzzelli and the artist's own sons, Jesse Jackson and Paris.
The album is full of poetry, sung or recited, sometimes both at once. Topics include reflections on environmental crisis, the domain of art as the greatest gift to man's divinity, love songs and tributes. Musically rock is always present, even in the matter of the title named "Banga", which comes from the name of a dog in the play "Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov.
