Βορειοκορεάτες καταδικάστηκαν σε καταναγκαστικά έργα επειδή δεν θρήνησαν τον θάνατο του ηγέτη τους Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ιλ Η Βόρεια Κορέα επέβαλε πολύμηνες καταδίκες σε στρατόπεδα εργασίας για όσους δεν θρήνησαν σωστά μετά το θάνατο του ηγέτη της χώρας Κιμ Γιονγκ Ιλ, όπως υποστηρίζει μία νοτιοκορεάτικη εφημερίδα στον ιστότοπό της.     Όσοι καταδικάστηκαν σε έξι μήνες καταναγκαστικά έργα κατηγορήθηκαν ότι δεν πήραν μέρος στις οργανωμένες τελετές πένθους ή ότι δεν κατάφεραν να κλάψουν ή να δείξουν ειλικρινή θλίψη στις τελετές, όπως αναφέρει η νοτιοκορεάτικη εφημερίδα Daily NK, η οποία επικαλείται μία ανώνυμη πηγή.     Άλλοι Βορειοκορεάτες εστάλησαν σε στρατόπεδα επανεκπαίδευσης ή εκδιώχθηκαν σε αγροτικές περιοχές μαζί με τις οικογένειές τους επειδή επέκριναν την κληρονομική διαδοχή στην ηγεσία της χώρας για τρίτη γενιά.     Σύμφωνα με τα κρατικά μέσα ενημέρωσης, ο Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ιλ, ο οποίος ήταν ηγέτης της Βόρειας Κορέας για 17 χρόνια, πέθανε στις 17 Δεκεμβρίου σε ηλικία 69 ετών από καρδιακή προσβολή. Ο γιος του Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ουν, ο οποίος είναι 28 ή 29 ετών, προωθήθηκε επικεφαλής της χώρας μετά το θάνατό του. Ο τελευταίος είχε διαδεχθεί επίσης τον πατέρα του, τον Κιμ Ιλ-Σουνγκ μετά το θάνατό του το 1994.     Τα κρατικά μέσα ενημέρωσης της χώρας έδειξαν εικόνες από εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες Βορειοκορεάτες να έχουν βγει στους δρόμους κλαίγοντας με λυγμούς για να παρακολουθήσουν την πομπή της σορού του Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ιλ.     Στο τέλος της επίσημης περιόδου πένθους οι τοπικές κυβερνητικές επιτροπές, οι βιομηχανίες και άλλες εταιρείες διοργάνωσαν συνελεύσεις όπου ασκήθηκε κριτική και στη συνέχεια επιβλήθηκαν οι ποινές, σύμφωνα με την Daily NK, στην οποία εργάζονται Βορειοκορεάτες που έχουν φύγει από τη χώρα τους και επικριτές του καθεστώτος της Πιονγκγιάνγκ.     Σύμφωνα με την πηγή της εφημερίδας οι συνεδριάσεις αυτές "προκάλεσαν μία άγρια ατμόσφαιρα φόβου, ενώ ανάγκασαν τους ανθρώπους να κατηγορήσουν 'αυτόν τον νεαρό αριβίστα' ότι βάζει στο στόχαστρό του το λαό τώρα που ανέλαβε την εξουσία".     Παράλληλα η Βόρεια Κορέα προσπαθεί να καλλιεργήσει τη λατρεία στο πρόσωπο του Κιμ Γιονγκ-Ουν αυξάνοντας την προπαγάνδα υπέρ του, όπως αναφέρει η ίδια πηγή.
